“God is the Light in which I see.”  A Course In Miracles

 “I will paint a loving portrait of me today.”

We each have a personal portrait that describes our lives.
That portrait changes with every thought and act.
It is not set in stone.
Instead it is fluid and filled with movement.
Every loving thought paints us in light.
Every fearful thought paints us in the dark.

Being in the dark is not permanent because only fear defines it.
Being in the Light, however, is constant and eternal
Because that Light is God.

Not experiencing the Light only means
We have covered it over with a cloud of our own
Dark thoughts. The Light remains constant beneath
The ever changing clouds.

Whenever we are not in peace, we can know
That fear is defining our portrait.
But the simplicity and power of us is that
We can change our minds.
We can dip our brush into a different pot of paint
Any time we want.

Being consistently mistaken is not something we should value. Nor should it cause us guilt.
Being consistently in Love is the only thing that’s real.

When we are in the dark, it only means we are in our inconsistent mind.
Being in the Light means that we are tuning into our true nature.

When we are in the dark, God quietly and gently speaks to us. 
“It’s okay my beloved Child. Now you choose again. 
Choose Me and I will show you your True Self.
Choose me and I will show you your Portrait in the Light.”

Below is a simple affirmation to carry you through the day. To calm yourself in any situation, simply find a place and time to sit still and breathing in and out slowly and quietly, repeat these words silently or aloud.  First line on the in breath, second line on the out breath, third line, in breath, fourth line, out breath. Continue for several minutes and feel your heart rate slow and a sweet smile form in your mind and light your face. 

My mind is calm.
My thoughts are still.
My heart forgives.
I trust God’s will.

We don’t have to look at all the things that are problems for us.  We simply have to look at the One thing that isn’t, God’s Love. And everything that isn’t Love will disappear.

“I will look for miracles today.”

We must expect miracles of love and healing at their highest level because they are our gifts from God. All we need to do to receive them is to say and then believe, “I deserve all that is good and holy and loving in my life. I am entitled to miracles.” And it shall be so.

The key word here is BELIEVE. And if you can’t believe, simply be willing to believe. God will do the rest.

 “I will shine my light with God today.”

Love is the center of the Universe. We have packed a lot of stuff around it and so we can’t always see the center very well. Together let’s start peeling off the excess that hides the truth from us. That fight we had with our spouse, peel it away. That moment we yelled at our child, peel that off right now. Let’s go find our spouse or our child and give him/her a hug and say I’m sorry, then throw the error in the trash. The time we felt worthless when someone insulted us. Peel it off and look at it. Can’t we see that wasn’t us they were talking about, but only a reflection of how they saw themselves? Well that’s a relief. Now we can throw it in the trash and wish them well.

Then there’s that worrisome moment when we listened to the news and heard how bad the world is. That hopeless, helpless feeling. How is it helpful for us to hang onto that? Peel it off. Bless the world and send it healing love and throw the bad news in the trash knowing there has to be a better way, a Higher Power that can heal even the worst devastation. There has to be hope.

A beloved friend or family member in dire straits is enough to distract us from our peace. Peel that off, ask the Universe how we can help and lift our loved one up to God for healing. One by one let’s clear the junk away. Obsessions over food, drugs and alcohol. Peel and toss! Fear from the past and fear of the future. Peel and toss!

What’s that we see up ahead? Is that a Light? Did we hear laughter? Was that a jolt of joy we felt? Come on, let work faster. Peel and toss. Peel and toss. Small things, large things. Peel and toss! All things that disturb us even the slightest. Peel and toss. Ahhh! Look! It’s the center of the Universe at last! It’s wondrous! And so restful. There is perfect balance here with everything and everyone in harmony. We are amazed to discover that not only is the center of the Universe filled with Love, but we are the Love that lives at the center of the Universe.

What was that dark and dingy place we peeled away? Who cares? It’s over. And now it’s time to live. Now it’s time to shine our light with God’s and really live.

Gossip does more harm than we can realize.
It hurts the victim but it also hurts the gossiper 
because it diminishes our power and makes us small.
And when we attack another, we attack ourselves.
It’s cause and effect.
If we want a loving effect, we must be a loving cause.

If we are addicted to gossip and simply cannot stop,
We can still change our minds about how we gossip.
We can gossip about our sister’s lovely spirit.
We can gossip about our brother’s holiness.
We can gossip about our willingness to be happy.

We can gossip about everything everyone does right
While we kindly overlook what we see as their mistakes.
In this way, we have turned gossip from something harmful
Into something that will make us instruments of peace.

And just as we attack ourselves by attacking others,
So do we Bless ourselves when we bless another.
So let’s smile and gossip only in kindness today.

When we become part of the solution, the problem disappears.

Or filled with fear.

Every fear thought is a dam
Holding back
A tidal wave of LOVE.

“I will be mindful of each moment in order to find my truth.”

In this instant lives all truth and beauty. In this moment all love and healing are deeply imbedded.

Even if we can’t see the miracles within this moment, we can trust that they are there. We need not search the past for our peace, nor do we need to leap into the future. Instead we need just live in this moment here and now to find everything we need to be happy, safe and well.

The past carries all our lessons that we have outgrown. Its only purpose now is to offer opportunities for forgiveness and then let it go. When we unclench our fists from our history, our story will change. If we are unhappy with our life, we can know that we are still allowing the past to rule our present. We must turn toward the past, thank it for its usefulness and then cheerfully say good-bye. What we experience here and now will be richer and more filled with joy when we understand that to be truly happy we must experience our life moment by moment.

Worry and anxiety are not helpful to a peaceful present. Worry is only praying for what we do not want. And it serves no purpose because it is not productive, nor is it helpful to ourselves, our loved ones or the world. Worry holds a power over our minds that keeps our story limited while it distracts us from the Truth. The alternative to worry is trust. To worry less, we must give to God everything that we feel disturbed about. All the things that have happened or that we think might happen, give to God so He can remove all doubt and fear from our thinking and replace it with calm and quiet confidence. Within this new calm and quiet confidence lives the trust that God is in charge and so no matter how we think it looks, it must be fine. Now the past has served its purpose and we are free to see things differently. “All your past except its beauty is gone, and nothing is left but a blessing.” (ACIM) is God’s promise to us.

The future that we worry over is but concern about repetition of a past that no longer serves us. So now we must release the future to God as well. “I place the future in the hands of God,” (ACIM) is the only prayer we need pray to bring us back into the moment where true opportunity for abiding peace and love and joy can happen.  

If we are experiencing challenges now, we must remember that our only choice is to pray, “God, please take this from me and show me what I must think and do and say to be at peace.” And He will guide us into the moment where our true lives will begin. Into the moment where we feel safe and loved and healed and whole. That moment does exist and it can be experienced only right here, right now with God leading the way.

And now we can be thankful that there is a place where truth and beauty wait for us. And it’s right here, right now.
