Sending Joy

Today I will only be kind to myself and everyone.

Let’s practice kindness on each other in this new year. We can’t heal the world, but we can be instrumental in healing our life. We can heal our thoughts and through our healed thoughts heal our relationships.

Our exercise is this. Next time we have an encounter with someone close to us, our spouse or partner, our children, our siblings and parents, our friends and co-workers let’s watch how we behave? Do we react to the fears of others with more fear? Or do we react with kindness and compassion recognizing that the acts and words of others are only a reflection of their state of mind at a given moment and not them at all. Let’s stand back and observe, not how others are being with us, but how we are being with them.

It is difficult and almost impossible sometimes to be calm and kind when someone is lashing out at us or behaving angrily. So in that moment the best we can do is say silently to God, “ I want no part of this.” Then excuse ourselves and find a quiet place to breathe. The act of not reacting is a very powerful tool for peace. It has often been touted as an act of weakness, but there is nothing more powerful than choosing not to be a part of the problem, but instead to allow ourselves to be Guided by a Higher Force, our greater Source and let God tell us how to react instead of deciding for ourselves. It is much weaker to lash back instinctively than to take the higher ground and let God choose for us how we should be or what we should do in any given situation.

Then when things are quieter and calmer and we are feeling stronger we can begin our practice of kindness and compassion. Maybe not at first with the person we feel attacked by, but begin simpler. Think kind thoughts of others that we are more peaceful with. We can call our parents and say, “I love you.” for no apparent reason.

We can get down on the floor and play with our children and let our voices join in joyous laughter. We can hug our spouse or partner and say, “I am grateful for you.” We can call our friend and tell them, “I’m so glad you are in my life.” To our co-worker, we can say, “It’s really great working with you.” For ourselves we can choose, “I am happy and so blessed.”

If we practice small gestures and simple, honest words and acts of kindness when our life is relatively calm, we can strengthen that muscle in us that is designed to be an instrument of peace in the world. Smile more often for no reason. Laugh out loud at the Murphy’s Laws of life. Laughing at ourselves and with others is a powerful tool for seeing the world from a less serious and doom clouded vision. And remember to be kind.  Always, always be kind.

How can we doubt we need another way? A way that does not put up barriers to healing, but opens our minds and hearts to God’s Healing. We can’t fix our relationships, the country or the world with our judgmental and righteous thinking. When we try, we block God’s Love from flowing through us and make enemies of our brothers and sisters. We need to be loving channels for Him, one mind and heart at a time. Then and only then are we part of the solution. 

“My part is essential to God’s Plan for salvation.” A Course In Miracles

Instead of blocking God by standing strong in our own limiting convictions for more fighting and more defensiveness, we need to bow our heads, drop to our knees and confess, “I don’t know how to fix this God, but You do.”

And then let it go. Let our anger go. Let our lack of trust in ourselves and our brothers and sisters go. Let go of our need to have revenge and thinking vengeance and fighting back is the answer. And let go of the thought that God is allowing the insanity of the world.

God can’t stop what we have chosen. God didn’t give us free will, He designed us with free will. Free will is imbedded into our Being by God and cannot be overridden by Him or anyone. His intention was that our will be His Will. He can’t change His own will. If we choose another will than His, He can’t stop us, but if we choose our natural State of Being by choosing His will for us which is Love, then and only then can He help us. Now we know, the better way is God’s Way.

“As our day begins peace fills us.”  

In the gently rising light of the early morning, before the world stirs, we awaken quietly and let calm and loving thoughts fill our minds.  We breathe in and out deeply and slowly asking for all that we want for ourselves and the world. In this way our hearts and minds are an open channel for all that is holy and healing for the world from the first moment of our day.  And with this decision that we make in the early light of the first hour of the day, we become a joyous learner of a new and better way to be; for ourselves and through our example, for our brothers and our sisters all as well.

Though it may appear so, we aren’t alone with our isolated thoughts.  Every decision we make, every thought we think, affects us and others as well.  As dawn breaks and morning light flows out upon the earth, our first decision for the day will be a prayer:

“The light has come.  I am healed and I can heal.
The light has come. I am saved and I can save.
The light has come.  I am at peace and I bring peace with me wherever I go.”  A Course In Miracles

And as our day ends …

In the quiet darkness as night softly blankets our world, and gentle fingers of sleep soothe our brows and close our eyes, again we do our quiet breathing.  Just before we fall asleep, we remember all the blessings in our lives and all the good things about the world and we make a decision to be grateful as we forgive everything and everyone that disturbs us even a little. And because our gratitude and grace come from the holy love of a creation of God, the Divine Universe decrees that all is well and we’re at peace.

And again, as the new day begins, in the gently rising light before the world stirs our peace continues, as we breathe, calmly and deeply, in and out. And so we come full circle.

Let’s go outside and play in the snow or dance in the rain. Let’s bless the sun that shines upon our world today and even the clouds that hide the sun for a moment or two. Let’s allow Love to govern our lives and every relationship.

We often speak about the price of peace

And

We talk of things like sacrifice and suffering,

Of fighting for our rights and bending others to our ways.

Of making everyone see God and the world as we do.

Of protecting ourselves without first asking God for help.

We need to be right even at the sacrifice of happiness.

We truly believe that peace will come from this.

But in God’s eyes what is the price of peace?

No price at all. It’s free In every sense.

Peace is a choice that when made with a kind heart and open mind flows gently through our being.

It judges no one.

It fights for nothing.

It is the core of our being

And

Simply is …

It is fathered by Forgiveness and mothered by Compassion.

It’s siblings, Kindness, Sharing, Tolerance and Joy will one day govern all hearts and

Heal the world through Love.

The price of peace is FREE!

There is no price at all!

“I am entitled to miracles.”  A Course In Miracles

“I am ripe for miracles today.”

Miracles are in every peaceful moment. And in moments not so peaceful. They can be seen in the obvious; a sunrise or a silent snowfall. They can be heard in a child’s laughter. Or felt with a dog or cat resting by our side when we are in need of quiet comfort.

Miracles happen in the forgiveness after an argument, in the chicken soup during the flu, in the signing of a cast after a broken arm. They happen during a visit to the hospital or elder care home.

Miracles happen in people coming together to help each other during an earthly disaster.  Or hugging a brother or sister after a loss, or a kind word when someone has been emotionally wounded and feels valueless. 

They can be felt in the unspoken joy that wells within us for no reason at all. Nothing obvious has happened, nothing noticeable has changed and yet we find ourselves smiling and feeling lifted with no apparent cause.

Miracles can be found in forgiveness of unkindness and in gratitude for transformation and transcendence. In counting our blessings even in the face of pain.

Pay attention to the miracles in their myriad of forms all around in every moment. Focus on the peace and joy flowing through us. That peace and joy is the presence of miracles. It is healing happening. It is us choosing love instead of fear, even if we aren’t consciously aware of having made a choice.

God’s love lives in each one of us. It is seen as light and experienced as truth, constant and unchanging and eternally us, one with each other and one with God. This is the State of Love; the condition of readiness for miracles. And it is always there, just waiting …

Isn’t it a warm and lovely thought to know that underneath the dead leaves of our past experience and in the wake of chaos; just out of our awareness lives this amazing world ripe for miracles and quietly awaiting our attention? And when we pay attention it appears in full panoramic view and nothing else exists. “

If we put a gift into a box, even if we wrap it beautifully and tie it with a colorful bow, it has no meaning unless we give it to someone. And then it has little meaning unless they unwrap it, see it and use it. This is how we set it free from its limiting containment in a box.

So it is with our thoughts. Even if we know in our minds that we are God’s creations and His Holy Children, but don’t live that way, then we and all others cannot receive the gift of what we know deep inside of us, that God’s Love is real and all else is an illusion.

The gift of our true understanding cannot shine through when it is wrapped in doubt and fear and tied with ribbons of darkness and worry, no matter how colorfully or poetically we describe them.

We can pray for peace and health and happiness, safety and abundance for the world, but if we speak and think and act without peace or kindness, the gift of our prayers cannot be seen or used. As with any gift, it is only useful when we unwrap it. We need to let our light shine through so our judgments and attack thoughts and victim thinking can be lifted from our minds and transformed and shared as gifts of Love and Joy for all. And we need to do this with God as our Guide.

In loving silence God continues unceasingly to gift us with His Truth.  Each moment is a Holy Instant and a miracle of joining with God and each other just waiting to be unwrapped.

PEACE ON EARTH

There was a small star in a black sea of sky whose light was very dim. Dark thoughts, heavy sadness, and crushing guilt from earth made it an overwhelming challenge for the little star to keeps its light alive. It continued to try valiantly, but the effort was exhausting.

One night just before its fading glow was extinguished for good, the star heard a sound. It listened closely and it heard it again. Sweet and gentle, and ever so lovely, the sound penetrated the heavy mist of fear that filled the world. It was the voices of a small boy and girl singing a lovely little hymn to each other in a small and dingy room with ice crystals clinging to the inside walls. The brother and sister had curled themselves up together in a thin and threadbare blanket. They were home alone. Home was a small apartment with no heat, but they didn’t seem to notice as their voices rose in harmony with one another. If anyone would have seen them, they would have been amazed by their shining eyes and happy smiles.

They had nothing in the worlds’ terms, but in their eyes they had everything. They had each other.

The star focused on the innocence and love that flowed from the hearts and into the song of these two children. And as it did so, its dim light began to brighten. Then softly and from a distance, the star heard more voices joining these and then more and more. Each voice belonged to a child. The star continued to focus only on the voices until it could hear nothing, but children singing in different languages, in different keys with different melodies that somehow blended and harmonized with each other and with the two original children in the cold apartment. The love that circled the world from the hearts of the children gave power and strength to the star until its light shone clear and filled the sky. Soon the dark sea of night disappeared into the light. The light from one small star.

You are the star. 
You are the children.
You are the song. 
You are the light. 
You are the innocence. 
You are the love.

Listen to your heart, focus on your song, see only your light and you will realize

Go inside your mind and see a tree, glorious and tall, its branches raised majestically, its trunk spanning the world. This tree has no leaves and yet it is full and beautifully abundant with not a bare spot to be seen. It cannot perish or change its hues which already are all the colors of the Universe.  Nor can what grows upon it ever be diminished or forgotten.

Go closer and lean your weight against it. Rest in its shade. Look up into its branches and see what fills them.  Do you recognize its fruit?  They are all the miracles, large and small, that belong to you.  See them fastened to the tree like lovely ornaments polished to a perfect sheen.

Every loving thought you’ve ever had is hanging there, blessed and saved for all eternity. There are your miracles of kind acts preserved for you in holy purity. The branches of the tree bear all the memories of each time your heart was opened to another, as are all the times your eyes have seen the truth of someone else; the innocence within their soul. As well, your gentleness and grace and every tear you’ve wiped from someone’s face or shed in loving sympathy for them. Every child you’ve ever held and every hand you’ve ever clasped as you helped a brother or a sister up and back upon their path. Every time you have forgiven yourself or someone else is a light upon the tree. Each time you trusted God instead of fear is a gift that He holds dear and keeps in place for you within the branches of this tree.

Every time you celebrated life instead of death is suspended there. Also every dark and painful moment you chose another way, opening your mind to embrace the holy healing of happy joy and laughter. Every prayer you’ve ever prayed where you put God’s will ahead of yours and every time that you grew still on His behalf are all firmly on the tree.

No matter what mistakes you make they are nothing in the face of all your miracles held fast upon God’s Tree of Truth where they will stay forever, shining their holy, healing light upon the earth. These words cannot convey how precious are your miracles that God has saved for you.  And when the time should come that you look back upon your life, be sure that these and only these are all that you and He will see.

And yet there is another world with a different mind, right here; right now.  There is a gentle re-birth moving quietly within us that does not happen in pain, but in joy! Although it can feel like pain until we grow still and look more deeply. We can be the channel for another way of thinking that is older than time and is not bound by walls around a limited space. Through God within us we can be the means for God to heal the world’s darkness in an instant; a Holy instant. Now is time transcended. Now is space transformed. Let’s not calculate or celebrate all the D words of the world.  Instead let’s open to an alphabet of greater possibilities.

Joy!
Miracles!
Peace!

Think HEALING.  Healing in the world is almost always thought of as healing of the body.  True healing is healing of the mind, the spirit mind where all thoughts originate.  A healed mind brings happiness; an unhealed mind is the cause of all grievances.  Would we rather wallow in pain or rest in joy?  Let us give ourselves the gift of healing through our forgiving thoughts and choose these loving attributes for ourselves and all the world.

As we kneel before the Altar of Peace, Love encircles us like a ring of light protecting us from all that seems to want to harm us. We cannot be but safe here when we understand our safety is governed by God’s laws not ego’s. And now we fall to our knees before the Altar of Peace that stands like a beacon of hope before us and assures us we are entitled to miracles and healing and Oneness.

The altar isn’t made of wood or metal or anything physical. Instead it is Light and Love and comes from within us and shines outward. We can bow our heads or not, lift our faces upward or close our eyes and kneel or not and still see this Altar of Peace. We can just be where we are and as we are for the Altar of Peace is seen not through our bodies’ eyes, but through our inner eye which is always open and ready to see the truth. The truth is that God Is, and nothing else exists.

Our smile transforms our faces as joy fills us and lifts us reminding us of Who and What we are. We are God’s Creations, not in body form, but in spirit which has no form. In God’s image not in ours. And now we can see that we are Spirit Creations having a human experience and not the other way around.

As our Spirit Love governs our existence and our human experience and gains strength and power through practice our experience is transformed from one of fear and victimhood to one of forgiveness and love through acts and words of kindness and compassion. Kindness and compassion for ourselves as well as for all others in our lives.

Instead of hearing and reacting to sadness and anger and fear in ourselves and others by responding in kind, we understand that fear and anger and sadness are simply calls for love and cries for help. As we kneel at the Altar of Peace, we are shown that we as humans are asking for and desperately wanting help to see ourselves as God sees us, but not sure how to make that happen.  

The only way to make it happen is to let it go. Lift it all up to God, and simply let it go. “I place the past, the present and the future in the hands of God.” And now the Altar of God within us shines forth as a stream of glorious and never ending Light and we see nothing else.

The flame of a single candle can light the world. 

Envision yourself standing in the center of the Universe holding up a lit candle. Watch its uncertain flickering flame become stronger and more steady as you gain in strength of understanding and trust in your power as a Creation of God. Quietly watch your candle as more and more, it lights you from within to the very core of your being.  All around you are the unlit candles of others who have not yet learned what you now know.

The unlit candles represent the darkness, fear and sadness, hopelessness and anger that permeates the being of so many in this world. Whenever we try to fix a thing through our limiting fears and hopeless negativity, without inviting God in, without joining lovingly with all God’s children, our candles remain unlit and separate.

We can’t see what we are meant to see. The Truth is Light not darkness.  The Truth is Hope not hopelessness.  The Truth is joy, not sadness. The Truth is Peace not anger. The Truth is Love not fear. The Truth is Health not sickness.

Now see yourself once more, standing in the light of your beautifully lit candle and hold out your flame as you invite others to light their candles by joining your flame with theirs. And as each child of God comes before you and you offer your flame watch each candle as it is kindled by your holy light.

See the flames spread like a flowing river of glorious light as more and more are awakened to the awareness that fear and sadness, hopelessness, anger and darkness disappear as God’s Children, one by one join with you at their heart center and light their candle from yours. And you will be aware as well, how powerful is one lit candle in a world that needs Peace and Love through joining in Oneness and Light. Be witness to the healing of the world through one open heart and the single flame of one lit candle.

And that’s how miracles happen.  One candle, one person, one heart at a time.

A beautiful thought is like a brightly shining star or an angel in flight. It makes you look up.  When you look up, you are lifted from the mundane to the holy, from the fearful to the joyous.  Holy is like Heaven on earth. Joyous is a place inside you that is filled with light. This Heaven is an eternal part of your very being and this joyous place is your home. Just pray, “God is the love with which I experience this moment.” And whoosh you’re in Heaven and at home in the state of purest joy. It’s not the past or the future in which we live. It’s now. Stay in the now surrounded by God’s Love and you can travel anywhere and still be Home.

Every possible moment, think a lovely thought while looking for the brightly shining star. And while you’re gazing up at the star with a light heart and a smile on your face, don’t forget to watch for angels in flight.

I am healing the world with my happiness. I am lifting hearts with my joy. I am bringing smiles to all faces with my laughter. I am bringing peace to all minds with my forgiveness. I am ensuring the worlds’ healing with my kindness.

As we understand the power of our thoughts, we will see how important it is to think loving thoughts and let go of fear filled thoughts. 

As we exercise our power to see through God’s eyes instead of trying to see on our own, we will begin to witness changes in those around us.  Where there was separation among God’s children, there will be a new joining, a new willingness to be happy and peaceful with each other. Instead of reacting through fear, we will be able to stop ourselves and ask God how we should handle each situation that arises. And as we listen silently to His response, we will find ourselves using different words and performing different acts than we did when we were acting on our own. 

And the miracles will flow.

Love will replace fear, laughter will replace tears and abundance will replace loss. Harmony and balance will replace extremes. Kindness will replace judgment and compassion will replace intolerance. Health will replace sickness and joy will replace sadness, anger and hopelessness. Calm and quiet confidence will replace anxiety, worry and depression.  Brothers and sisters will replace enemies.

It will be a new world and it will happen through the power of you and me thinking only with God.
