Sending Joy

Let’s think of ourselves as an onion. Layers and layers of experience, feelings, desires, hopes and fears. All the things that make us, us are in that onion. We are complex. We are unique. We are special. We have moments of joy mingled with pain. Moments of sunlight darkened by storms.

I wonder if we took the time to count, which would be more prevalent, the sunlight or the storms? Do we want to know? And why do we think it’s a good thing to be special, unique and complex? Have we ever asked ourselves that question? What is so special about being special?

What if being special means our happiness must be touched by suffering? What if being special means our light must be darkened by fear? What if being special means our joy must be mingled with pain? Our peace dimmed by doubt? What if being special means that no matter what we do or what we have that is unique from others, it can’t make us happy? Would we still want it?

Shall we peel that onion now, layer by layer and see what’s at the core? Strip away the pain. Strip away the sadness. Strip away the anger. Strip away the sickness and suffering. Strip away the fear in every form imaginable. And now we’ve reached the core, the very center of our being. That place where we aren’t so different from each other, but only One. What is left?

Love. Only Love is left.

Prayers for all those who may be experiencing extreme weather conditions, hurricanes and tsunamis, fires or floods anywhere in this world.  Our loving thoughts are with you. May God keep you safe and transform the extremes into harmony and balance. 

Let our prayer be for healing and health for all the world. Let us ask for help with kindness and love and trust to generate the health and wellness, safety and peace of mind we want for every man, woman and child on earth.
