Sending Joy

Today I will only be kind to myself and everyone.

Let’s practice kindness on each other in this new year. We can’t heal the world, but we can be instrumental in healing our life. We can heal our thoughts and through our healed thoughts heal our relationships.

Our exercise is this. Next time we have an encounter with someone close to us, our spouse or partner, our children, our siblings and parents, our friends and co-workers let’s watch how we behave? Do we react to the fears of others with more fear? Or do we react with kindness and compassion recognizing that the acts and words of others are only a reflection of their state of mind at a given moment and not them at all. Let’s stand back and observe, not how others are being with us, but how we are being with them.

It is difficult and almost impossible sometimes to be calm and kind when someone is lashing out at us or behaving angrily. So in that moment the best we can do is say silently to God, “ I want no part of this.” Then excuse ourselves and find a quiet place to breathe. The act of not reacting is a very powerful tool for peace. It has often been touted as an act of weakness, but there is nothing more powerful than choosing not to be a part of the problem, but instead to allow ourselves to be Guided by a Higher Force, our greater Source and let God tell us how to react instead of deciding for ourselves. It is much weaker to lash back instinctively than to take the higher ground and let God choose for us how we should be or what we should do in any given situation.

Then when things are quieter and calmer and we are feeling stronger we can begin our practice of kindness and compassion. Maybe not at first with the person we feel attacked by, but begin simpler. Think kind thoughts of others that we are more peaceful with. We can call our parents and say, “I love you.” for no apparent reason.

We can get down on the floor and play with our children and let our voices join in joyous laughter. We can hug our spouse or partner and say, “I am grateful for you.” We can call our friend and tell them, “I’m so glad you are in my life.” To our co-worker, we can say, “It’s really great working with you.” For ourselves we can choose, “I am happy and so blessed.”

If we practice small gestures and simple, honest words and acts of kindness when our life is relatively calm, we can strengthen that muscle in us that is designed to be an instrument of peace in the world. Smile more often for no reason. Laugh out loud at the Murphy’s Laws of life. Laughing at ourselves and with others is a powerful tool for seeing the world from a less serious and doom clouded vision. And remember to be kind.  Always, always be kind.

In this new year let’s make resolutions to:

Smile more
Laugh out loud
Love ourselves.
Value Life.
Value our brothers’ and sisters’ lives.
See God’s Love and Light in everyone.

Let’s let joy be free as we forgive and surrender everything that disturbs our peace. Let’s celebrate with our family and friends even if it’s virtually. Let’s count our blessings, not our grievances. Let’s go outside and play in the snow or dance in the rain. Let’s bless the sun that shines upon our world today and even the clouds that hide the sun for a moment or two. Let’s allow Love to govern our lives and every relationship.

Let’s place our trust, not in the world, but in God. So we really have only one resolution – to be happy.  And now we are living God’s will for us.

PEACE ON EARTH

There was a small star in a black sea of sky whose light was very dim. Dark thoughts, heavy sadness, and crushing guilt from earth made it an overwhelming challenge for the little star to keeps its light alive. It continued to try valiantly, but the effort was exhausting.

One night just before its fading glow was extinguished for good, the star heard a sound. It listened closely and it heard it again. Sweet and gentle, and ever so lovely, the sound penetrated the heavy mist of fear that filled the world. It was the voices of a small boy and girl singing a lovely little hymn to each other in a small and dingy room with ice crystals clinging to the inside walls. The brother and sister had curled themselves up together in a thin and threadbare blanket. They were home alone. Home was a small apartment with no heat, but they didn’t seem to notice as their voices rose in harmony with one another. If anyone would have seen them, they would have been amazed by their shining eyes and happy smiles.

They had nothing in the worlds’ terms, but in their eyes they had everything. They had each other.

The star focused on the innocence and love that flowed from the hearts and into the song of these two children. And as it did so, its dim light began to brighten. Then softly and from a distance, the star heard more voices joining these and then more and more. Each voice belonged to a child. The star continued to focus only on the voices until it could hear nothing, but children singing in different languages, in different keys with different melodies that somehow blended and harmonized with each other and with the two original children in the cold apartment. The love that circled the world from the hearts of the children gave power and strength to the star until its light shone clear and filled the sky. Soon the dark sea of night disappeared into the light. The light from one small star.

You are the star. 
You are the children.
You are the song. 
You are the light. 
You are the innocence. 
You are the love.

Listen to your heart, focus on your song, see only your light and you will realize

Go inside your mind and see a tree, glorious and tall, its branches raised majestically, its trunk spanning the world. This tree has no leaves and yet it is full and beautifully abundant with not a bare spot to be seen. It cannot perish or change its hues which already are all the colors of the Universe.  Nor can what grows upon it ever be diminished or forgotten.

Go closer and lean your weight against it. Rest in its shade. Look up into its branches and see what fills them.  Do you recognize its fruit?  They are all the miracles, large and small, that belong to you.  See them fastened to the tree like lovely ornaments polished to a perfect sheen.

Every loving thought you’ve ever had is hanging there, blessed and saved for all eternity. There are your miracles of kind acts preserved for you in holy purity. The branches of the tree bear all the memories of each time your heart was opened to another, as are all the times your eyes have seen the truth of someone else; the innocence within their soul. As well, your gentleness and grace and every tear you’ve wiped from someone’s face or shed in loving sympathy for them. Every child you’ve ever held and every hand you’ve ever clasped as you helped a brother or a sister up and back upon their path. Every time you have forgiven yourself or someone else is a light upon the tree. Each time you trusted God instead of fear is a gift that He holds dear and keeps in place for you within the branches of this tree.

Every time you celebrated life instead of death is suspended there. Also every dark and painful moment you chose another way, opening your mind to embrace the holy healing of happy joy and laughter. Every prayer you’ve ever prayed where you put God’s will ahead of yours and every time that you grew still on His behalf are all firmly on the tree.

No matter what mistakes you make they are nothing in the face of all your miracles held fast upon God’s Tree of Truth where they will stay forever, shining their holy, healing light upon the earth. These words cannot convey how precious are your miracles that God has saved for you.  And when the time should come that you look back upon your life, be sure that these and only these are all that you and He will see.

“For perfect effectiveness the Atonement belongs at the center of the inner altar, where it undoes the separation and restores the wholeness of the mind. The children of God are entitled to the perfect comfort that comes from perfect trust. The Atonement is the only gift that is worthy of being offered at the altar of God, because of the value of the altar itself.” A Course In Miracles

“I will kneel at my inner Altar and place my trust in God today knowing Atonement means complete forgiveness, total healing and perfect oneness.” 

As we kneel before the Altar of Peace, Love encircles us like a ring of light protecting us from all that seems to want to harm us. We cannot be but safe here when we understand our safety is governed by God’s laws not ego’s. And now we fall to our knees before the Altar of Peace that stands like a beacon of hope before us and assures us we are entitled to miracles and healing and Oneness.

The altar isn’t made of wood or metal or anything physical. Instead it is Light and Love and comes from within us and shines outward. We can bow our heads or not, lift our faces upward or close our eyes and kneel or not and still see this Altar of Peace. We can just be where we are and as we are for the Altar of Peace is seen not through our bodies’ eyes, but through our inner eye which is always open and ready to see the truth. The truth is that God Is, and nothing else exists.

Our smile transforms our faces as joy fills us and lifts us reminding us of Who and What we are. We are God’s Creations, not in body form, but in spirit which has no form. In God’s image not in ours. And now we can see that we are Spirit Creations having a human experience and not the other way around.

As our Spirit Love governs our existence and our human experience and gains strength and power through practice our experience is transformed from one of fear and victimhood to one of forgiveness and love through acts and words of kindness and compassion. Kindness and compassion for ourselves as well as for all others in our lives.

Instead of hearing and reacting to sadness and anger and fear in ourselves and others by responding in kind, we understand that fear and anger and sadness are simply calls for love and cries for help. As we kneel at the Altar of Peace, we are shown that we as humans are asking for and desperately wanting help to see ourselves as God sees us, but not sure how to make that happen.  

The only way to make it happen is to let it go. Lift it all up to God, and simply let it go. “I place the past, the present and the future in the hands of God.” And now the Altar of God within us shines forth as a stream of glorious and never ending Light and we see nothing else.

“I will practice being harmless  today.”

Health and well being are when we see ourselves as more than a body. When an understanding comes over us that we are okay just as we are. No strings attached. No special conditions imposed. Just pure acceptance. This is the energy of Love. This is the power of being harmless.

“I need be anxious over nothing.” A Course In Miracles

Harmlessness is when we choose to be kind instead of hurtful to another. No matter how small the act, our willingness to be harmless offers a healing experience for us and for others. It is the essence of harmlessness when nothing we think or do or say disturbs us or anyone else.  True honesty and harmlessness is when our most loving thoughts are in perfect alignment with our actions and our words.  

Helpfulness happens whenever we see someone in need and offer a hand, a kind word, an encouraging smile. Whenever we hear someone’s cry for help and then answer it with a prayer or a blessing on their behalf. Whenever we withhold judgment and choose love instead.  This is the decision for Love; the decision to be harmless.

It is only in being harmless to our brothers and sisters, to our planet and to ourselves that we can be truly helpful in healing the world.  It is the harmless ones joining their power that will heal the world. And we know for sure, we are okay.

“I will welcome the healing light of peace today.”

If we keep a forgiving place inside our mind where it is welcome, peace will always find us. It is a constant thread of light that is woven through the fabric of each moment. Even when the world is at its darkest the light of peace is there, sometimes barely noticed, other times completely hidden by a fog of fear and worry. And yet there is no fog so thick, no night so dark that can keep our peace from us.

Miracles of forgiving love are imbedded in each peaceful thought transforming pain to joy. Peace is in the smile that shines through eyes of kindness. It’s in the laughter among friends. It comforts by a helping hand and offers itself in moments of compassion. It rests on tolerance and patience and brings with it opportunities for looking on the bright side. It lifts the weight of judgment and attack thoughts from our minds, freeing us to fly.

Peace radiates its warmth like sunshine on a quiet pond and dances lightly like dragonflies among the hostas. It is a vow of truth always kept; a knowing deep inside us, all is well. Angels’ promises fulfilled. When peace is present nothing else exists. It is our ever true and changeless gift from God.

May you walk in peace today knowing you are blessing the world with your light.

In this moment there is all of life. The past is released, the future surrendered and this moment is all there is. It isn’t necessary to know specifically what we cling to in the past, what shadows we danced with, what tears we cried, what sad songs we sang, what pain we suffered.  All that’s necessary is to know that all is forgiven and suffering is done.

“Release your mind and you will look upon a world released.” A Course In Miracles

In this moment we are free to let the past go like a silk scarf in the wind and celebrate our light.  What the future holds is also unimportant for we can change that by simply choosing to be happy now.  No one and nothing has the power to disturb our peace.

Peace doesn’t come from bodies or egos. Nor can our peace be disrupted by bodies or egos. Peace comes from God.  And the choice to experience peace comes from us.  Not from anything outside of us, but from God Who dwells within.  Accept this and let everything else go and peace will be ours

Be in the Now. 

Live in the Now. 

Dance and sing joyfully Now. 

Rejoice and celebrate Now.

Let your laughter ring out Now. 

And let all else go.

Not a moment ago, or a moment from now, but NOW. And then NOW and NOW again.  Practice this with gentle breathing and a soft smile, a quiet laugh. Repeat “God is the Love with which I experience this moment.” And watch your LIFE begin.

If you feel your peace disturbed by someone or something outside of you, quietly understand that you are simply judging someone or something apart from God.  Then simply grow still and ask for help to be released from this disturbance and let harmony and balance fill you.

Ask for guidance as to how to remove yourself from this place that challenges you and listen quietly for the answers. Watch carefully for miracles of love and healing to lead you on a new path which takes you gently away from fear and into Light.  And trust that in God, all is well.  All is well NOW.

I am the open mind and heart that loves myself and all others, 
Not the veil of judgment or intolerance I peer through
That distorts my true seeing.

I am the peace, not the worry.  
I am the trust not the fear.

Whenever we’re not at peace, we are seeing through mistaken eyes
And then we must look again. Our prayer should be,

“God, let me see myself through your eyes.”

Now we can serve with a kindness and compassion that radiates loving energy and allows healing for ourselves and all the world as we remember …

“Let every voice but God’s be still in me.” A Course In Miracles

“I will remember that I am so much more than my fearful thoughts.”

The sound of a drop of rain upon a blade of grass is louder than the sound of a breaking heart.

A heart breaks silently and is often not recognized through the noise and distractions it hides behind. Activities of every kind can mask the breaking heart. It is well preserved behind blasts of rage and sobs of sadness and even screams of terror. It burrows beneath addictions and violent behavior. Few understand that all this chaos and craziness are signs of a wounded spirit and a frightened child crying out for the love that it is missing. The past has rushed forth to wreak havoc in the present and to cause alarm about the future.

To cover up our pain and fear, we judge the judgments, defend ourselves against attack and bury our heads under the blankets to protect ourselves from our own dark unseen places. We bully the bully and defend or attack the defenseless. But we never smile gently at the suffering soul and say kindly to ourselves and others, “You are so much more than all of this.”

All this acting out is but a refusal to recognize the breaking heart. All this being right at all costs while projecting blame upon the world outside is but a mask to cover our real need to be happy even when happiness seems impossible.

We find it too painful to look inside and see that the breaking heart is really a breaking open to a new identity, another way of seeing. It is a crack in the armor of our defenses allowing a sliver of light to shine through; a ray of hope for something better just over the horizon. So instead of quietly looking at the darkness that we feel threatens our existence we frantically try to fix things. We want to fix ourselves and everyone else thinking this is the solution for a better life. Without all this fixing what would be our purpose here? We don’t see the dishonesty in this way of thinking. We can’t see that true honesty is aligning our thoughts with our behavior. Our true thoughts always come from Love because that is God’s will for us. Love is a state of Being not of doing. And we must leave the fixing to the One Who can fix everything.

Truth is choosing happiness at the same time that we stop judging the world. It’s allowing our heart to break and accepting the pain knowing that it’s only temporary and part of the process of our healing. It’s giving up the past and being present to this moment with kindness and compassion and with trust in a Power greater than our small, suffering self.

It’s turning our face to God’s Light and praying, “Show me how my fellow human is not my enemy or even my business.” It’s accepting God’s will for us and for everyone knowing that God will lead us to where we need to be. He will tell us all we need to know if only we will listen.

God will harness our racing thoughts and give us the words to speak. We no longer have to try and fix the world from the vantage point of a breaking heart and a vision so narrow that nothing we do or say without Him is truly helpful to anyone. At last we can admit that we really don’t know anything and that’s okay because there is a Divine Power that knows all about all. God in His infinite wisdom will guide us in how to be most helpful if we allow Him.

Now we can feel the broken heart healing bit by bit, moment by moment, shard by shard. The darkness grows dimmer and the light grows brighter. The fear weakens and the joy strengthens. We see that it is a great relief to lay the world’s healing at God’s feet.

With the screams of terror, the blasts of rage and the sobs of sadness all silenced by God’s healing Love, we can actually hear a drop of rain or a weightless snowflake land softly upon a blade of grass. And what a lovely sound it makes.

In this season of thankfulness, let’s open our hearts and minds to all that is beautiful and amazing in our lives. Gratitude is an attribute we all must cultivate if we want to open the world’s door to God’s loving presence. In gratitude we bless this moment, and everyone in our lives. In gratitude we remember to be thankful for our own loving selves. When our hearts are grateful, we shine a heavenly light upon everyone and everything. Our gratitude lifts the world to its highest state of being and brings peace to all.

GRATITUDE

G ratitude is quieting our thoughts and being thankful as we
R emember to keep our hearts and minds wide open and
A ware of every single opportunity to forgive the world and
T rust in God for everything that is good and right and holy
I n our lives and to use our blessings as stepping stones for
T ranscending fear and guilt as we open to our own truth
U nderstanding that God’s Divine and Holy Universe is
D esigned for our happiness and joy and offers to us
E verything we need and everything God wants for us.

Fear disappears in the light of our Gratitude. They cannot exist together.

To cover up our pain and fear, we judge the judgments, defend ourselves against attack and bury our heads under the blankets to protect ourselves from our own dark unseen places. We bully the bully and defend or attack the defenseless. But we never smile gently at the suffering soul and say kindly to ourselves and others, “You are so much more than all of this.”

All this acting out is but a refusal to recognize the breaking heart. All this being right at all costs while projecting blame upon the world outside is but a mask to cover our real need to be happy even when happiness seems impossible.

We find it too painful to look inside and see that the breaking heart is really a breaking open to a new identity, another way of seeing. It is a crack in the armor of our defenses allowing a sliver of light to shine through; a ray of hope for something better just over the horizon. So instead of quietly looking at the darkness that we feel threatens our existence we frantically try to fix things. We want to fix ourselves and everyone else thinking this is the solution for a better life. Without all this fixing what would be our purpose here? We don’t see the dishonesty in this way of thinking. We can’t see that true honesty is aligning our thoughts with our behavior. Our true thoughts always come from Love because that is God’s will for us. Love is a state of Being not of doing. And we must leave the fixing to the One Who can fix everything.

Truth is choosing happiness at the same time that we stop judging the world. It’s allowing our heart to break and accepting the pain knowing that it’s only temporary and part of the process of our healing. It’s giving up the past and being present to this moment with kindness and compassion and with trust in a Power greater than our small, suffering self.

It’s turning our face to God’s Light and praying, “Show me how my fellow human is not my enemy or even my business.” It’s accepting God’s will for us and for everyone knowing that God will lead us to where we need to be. He will tell us all we need to know if only we will listen.

God will harness our racing thoughts and give us the words to speak. We no longer have to try and fix the world from the vantage point of a breaking heart and a vision so narrow that nothing we do or say without Him is truly helpful to anyone. At last we can admit that we really don’t know anything and that’s okay because there is a Divine Power that knows all about all. God in His infinite wisdom will guide us in how to be most helpful if we allow Him.

Now we can feel the broken heart healing bit by bit, moment by moment, shard by shard. The darkness grows dimmer and the light grows brighter. The fear weakens and the joy strengthens. We see that it is a great relief to lay the world’s healing at God’s feet.

With the screams of terror, the blasts of rage and the sobs of sadness all silenced by God’s healing Love, we can actually hear a drop of rain or a weightless snowflake land softly upon a blade of grass. And what a lovely sound it makes.

“Let miracles replace all grievances.” A Course In Miracles

“I will let grievances be transformed into miracles of unity and peace today.”  

What if the problem is that we think we are many? And the solution is remembering that we are One? Let’s say the real problem is we believe we are separate from God and from each other. And the solution is that we forgive that thought and choose to remember we are One.  What would happen?  Only one thing can happen.  The idea of separation would collapse and be transformed into our Truth of Holy Oneness.

What if there was only one problem?  And one solution?  Let’s say the problem is that we are holding onto a grievance.  And the solution is that we have decided to let it go.  What would happen?  Only one thing can happen. The grievance would collapse and be transformed into a miracle.

What does this mean?  It means that every grievance is a separation thought no matter in what form it comes to us. Every grievance and every separation thought can be seen as a lesson; an opportunity for healing.  Healing of our thinking through our forgiveness is the only true healing.  Now we no longer see the grievance or the separation, but only our oneness in God. In that moment we have experienced a true healing.  Any healing that happens at the level of the spirit mind is permanent. This doesn’t mean we won’t cherish other grievances or even bring this one up again, but it does mean that the solution has happened; the problem has been solved.  It is our choice whether we recognize and accept this or not.  It is our choice whether we want to live in our healed mind or in our grievances and separation thinking.

In True Forgiveness, nothing can disturb our peace and all that we draw to us is joy and loving miracles. We are no longer a victim, but a powerful Child of a Loving God who is at peace and brings peace with us wherever we go. Now we are able to allow Him to walk before us and correct every problem we may think we have. Forgiveness is our path to perfect peace. The problem is we believe we are separate. The answer is WE are not.

FORGIVENESS, TRUST, GRATITUDE AND LOVE (The 4 laws for peace)

“Love is the way I walk in gratitude.”  A Course In Miracles

“I will smile with gratitude upon everyone and everything today.”

It is the ending of the harvest season and Thanksgiving is coming closer. This is the perfect time to remember to practice gratitude. Not just gratitude for things, but also let’s be grateful for our true blessings, beginning with our own miraculous selves. 

Let us be grateful for forgiveness; forgiveness in the sense that we own nothing that happens here, but instead every experience belongs to God. Forgiveness is as simple as letting go and letting God. Forgiveness is placing our trust in Him while we rest in the understanding that God’s Laws are now governing our lives. Forgiveness is the key to happiness and the result of trust. 

So now we are grateful for trust. Without trust our experience here is uncertain and fearful. Without trust we are as small children being thrown from a cliff every day. Are we or our loved ones going to get sick?  And what if we are sick already? What do we do with that? Are we going to lose our jobs? Or if we’ve lost our jobs, where do we go from here? What do we do about an abusive or unhappy relationship? Is the world going to come crashing to a violent end? Are our children in danger? How can we live with this uncertainty a moment longer? Why should we? The answer is TRUST. 

Now no matter how uncertain and scary it looks and feels, we are assured that there is a world beyond this world where all is being taken care of for us. This world is right here, right now. This place is as near as our hearts. It is our Home in God. Trust is a difficult thing for most of us, but we can at least be willing to trust. God takes our little willingness and lovingly uses it for His healing purpose. 

Being grateful for love seems logical even to our limited earthly self. After all Love is the answer. Love unlocks hearts and brings people together. Love, infinite and eternal, is how we were created and that makes us living, breathing miracles. The love that comes from God doesn’t know gender, ethnicity, physical circumstances, political or religious differences. Love from God just IS. And from this amazing Love comes peace.

Let’s rest for a moment in that thought and gratefully allow our hearts to fill with peace.  Breathe it in and then let it spill out into the world.  Again.  Again. See this peace as a gentle breeze that touches everything and everyone as it flows out into the atmosphere. It rests on every man, woman and child and gently caresses them, quiets their thoughts and calms their hearts. It touches every animal and plant and is our key to transformation. Peace is our true essence and God’s gift to His beloved children should we choose to accept it. Let’s gratefully accept the peace of our true existence, our real purpose and God’s loving gift to us.  Remember, forgiveness, trust, gratitude and love all bring us peace.

Now, we must be grateful for gratitude for it is our gratitude that flings open the windows and doors to our inner world. This is the world where we are one with God and with each other. This is the world that is our true home and the place from which we will begin to heal and the world with us. God heals, but we must allow. Gratitude opens our hearts and allows Him in so He can do His healing work for us and through us.

In gratitude we walk the earth today.

Our willingness for peace does not happen into a void and then what? It’s not, “I have peace now. Is this all there is?”

No, our willingness for something better opens doors and windows to wondrous moments, amazing experiences, delightful opportunities and holy relationships. It changes our world as we change our mind about the world. So now we can have expectations for beauty and joy and abundance beyond anything we could have imagined on our own. We have  joined with God and His Divine Universe when we agreed to give Him our fears and allowed our minds and hearts to be open to our own Holy Healing.

The sound of a drop of rain upon a blade of grass is louder than the sound of a breaking heart.

A heart breaks silently and is often not recognized through the noise and distractions it hides behind. Activities of every kind can mask the breaking heart. It is well preserved behind blasts of rage and sobs of sadness and even screams of terror. It burrows beneath addictions and violent behavior. Few understand that all this chaos and craziness are signs of a wounded spirit and a frightened child crying out for the love that it is missing. The past has rushed forth to wreak havoc in the present and to cause alarm about the future.
